The Network of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) shows the variety of cultural expressions that communities, groups or individuals themselves recognize as intangible cultural heritage. They have registered this ICH in the Network. The Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage is therefore not responsible for the content of the description.

Description

Mowing and peening of a scythe. Peening a scythe is a 'thin' beating of the blade with a hammer, so that it becomes sharp for use.

Practitioners and those involved are the older generation of farmers. See also www.achterhoekse-evenementen.nl/zeis

Started in Neoliticum, from hunter to farmer. Flint-stained deer horn to iron sickle, from sickle via zigt to scythe.
