The Network of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) shows the variety of cultural expressions that communities, groups or individuals themselves recognize as intangible cultural heritage. They have registered this ICH in the Network. The Dutch Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage is therefore not responsible for the content of the description.

Description

For decades, this large market has attracted tens of thousands of visitors from the region and the Euregion every week. People come from far and wide to the center of Enschede to make their fresh purchases in one of the most versatile markets in the Netherlands.

Those involved are the more than 100 entrepreneurs who visit the market every Saturday to sell their goods in Enschede.

In the year 1517 the bishop gave permission to hold a market. History probably goes back as far as there have been city rights, although that is somewhat difficult to substantiate. This year is therefore celebrated 500 years goods market in the center of Enschede.
