Keuzekompas: start a conversation about intangible heritage!

Dynamic heritage Safeguarding Ethics

Sometimes it is not easy to start a conversation about your intangible heritage. Or to check within their own group whether unforeseen problems may arise in safeguarding. That is why the Dutch Center for Intangible Cultural Heritage offers a 'choice compass', a paper moderator, with a number of questions and points for discussion. With this compass you can easily start a conversation about your intangible heritage. In addition, this compass will hopefully help you spot pitfalls in time. The compass consists of eight themes, each with three questions. By turning the disc, a different theme and corresponding questions are visible each time. On this page we take you through the use of the compass in steps. From assembling the compass yourself to ways to start a conversation with the help of the compass as a duo or in a group.

How do you make the compass?

Download the compass from this website, print the parts on sturdy paper if possible and cut out the three layers. In fact, you only need the disc with questions and the turntable (pages 1 and 3). From page 1 you have to cut the triangle. Make a hole in the center of the circles and use a pin to join the two layers together, turning the top one. Ready!

How do you use the compass?

There are several ways to use the compass. We will discuss three of them here, but also consider how the compass can be used as a conversation tool.

Application 1: As a duo or in a group (you)

Application 2: Dialogue in a larger group

Application 3: Dialogue and role play around Sinterklaas
