Description

The Zwarte Cross is a three-day party with music, motocross, stunts, humor, theater and spectacle. The convergence of these apparently totally different worlds creates a globally unique party. The clear connection with De Achterhoek, where the party takes place, is reflected in the characteristic cosiness, humor and hospitality of this region. The festival is visited annually by young and old.

The festival was first organized in 1997 in Hummelo, in the Achterhoek. It was a cross race in which everyone was allowed to participate with a motorcycle, moped, scooter or other means of transport of their choice. The name Zwarte Cross goes back to a phenomenon from the 60s, when high-profile pub visitors who bragged too much about their performance on the dirt bike or moped were challenged to prove their abilities in a black cross. In the meantime, the Zwarte Cross has grown to become the largest motocross event in the world and the largest music event in the Netherlands.

Young and old celebrate a party together at the Zwarte Cross and that is clearly visible in the music and theater performances at the different festival meadows. Every year around 150 bands and 1,000 theater artists are on the program. From blues, dance, reggae, rock 'n roll, children's acts, metal, cabaret, singer-songwriter, small art to party music. One moment with 40,000 people go free at the main stage, and another moment you will be surprised with 69 others in a small theater tent. It's all possible at the Zwarte Cross.
